First Ulster County Militia was created in 1776 in the Province of New York; it's citizen soldiers saw simultaneous service at Fort Montgomery, Saratoga, and the Burning of our hometown and the state capital at that time, Kingston, in 1777, and acted as wagoneers for the Sullivan Campaign, among other wartime duties. The recreated unit is based in the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain Region of New York. The re-created First Ulster takes part in battle reenactments, and living history demonstrations year-round including hosting our own The Burning of Kingston event since 1997. As Citizen-Soldiers, we dress in the manner of residents of the Hudson Valley in the mid 1770's, and have a strong first person living history program with local sites, recreating actual residents, with their customs, Dutch as well as English, trades, events of their lives, and cultures. Our ladies and children are our vital partners in recreating the full spectrum of 18th Century Life, beyond the battlefield.

The Second Regiment, Albany County Militia was formed in 1999, and joined the Continental Line in 2002. Our membership comes from across New York State. The 2nd Albany was the largest of 17 Albany County regiments, and was based in Schenectady, NY. The Regiment was active in upstate New York throughout the Revolution. In addition to its military impression, the 2nd Albany often features programming emphasizing the "civilian" side of the war for independence.
