Dear Reenactors,

This past week, we were all saddened to hear of the sudden loss of our friend, fellow historian and leader, Harry Stephens, who commanded the 24th Connecticut Militia Regiment.

In tribute to Harry, the Friends of Abraham Staats House, Inc., in cooperation with the 24th Connecticut Militia Regiment, will hold a memorial service on the grounds of the Abraham Staats House, at 3PM on Saturday, April 13th.

The service will take place during the Annual Battle of Bound Brook, an event at which Harry served as commander of the American troops in past years, sharing his expertise, knowledge and good company to the benefit of the reenactment community he so delighted in, preservation efforts, and visitors who enjoyed the thrill of living history.

Please join us as we pay homage to Harry.  Following the service, we invite attendees to partake in the community meal being provided by the Reformed Church of Bound Brook/Fellowship Hall in South Bound Brook.  Those in period clothing may request free meal ticket passes at the Registration Tent located on the grounds of the Abraham Staats House.

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Harry Stephens. Harry is the Commander of the 24th Connecticut Militia Regiment, a great leader and a true friend. Rest in Peace Harry,
Dana Rock.    4th Middlesex/Regiment de Saintonge.

Some of you many not know Harry Stephens of the 24th CT Regt, but if you served with the rifles over the last few years you have likely served under him.  I regret to report that according to several reliable Facebook posts it appears that Harry passed away this weekend at his home.

Harry’s leadership in the rifle community of our hobby, not to mention the hobby in general, was significant and I am proud to have considered Harry a friend.  I will surely miss his leadership and input, his enthusiasm and commitment for improving our conduct and impressions in the field and our understanding of riflemen in the Revolutionary War.

Harry was a true gentleman and a true leader.  His event at Wyoming Valley a few years ago was a smashing success and a testament to his ability as a leader, motivator, planner and of course, reenactor.  I am deeply saddened by Harry’s passing; we have all lost a true patriot and friend.

Godspeed Harry,
Mike Cecere    7th Virginia Regiment
